A word list item is the compact word card used in search results, collections, and study lists. It shows a Japanese word at a glance, with controls for audio and collections.

Every word entry displays several pieces of information at a glance.

Written Form & Reading
The top line of each entry.
Written form
The word itself, usually in kanji. Preferred Word Display controls whether kanji, kana, hiragana, or katakana is shown.
Words usually written in kana
When a word is usually written in kana despite having a kanji spelling, eevy shows the kana form and keeps the kanji as a secondary form. The kanji still appears in books and formal writing.
Reading
The kana reading sits beside the written form. Show Romaji adds a romanized transcription; Show Furigana adds reading hints above kanji.
Pronunciation guide
With Always Show Pronunciation on, the guide appears automatically in your chosen style: IPA, English approximation, or Katakana.
Meanings Preview
Numbered definitions set off by a primary-colored left border. How many show depends on the context:

Polite Form
The red seal (敬) indicates a polite or formal expression (敬語, keigo), such as ます-form verbs or respectful/humble speech.
Frequency Rank
How commonly the word appears in general Japanese usage. Lower numbers mean higher frequency. The color indicates the frequency tier: green for very common words, shifting through the spectrum for less frequent ones.
